Groups Day Three :
It was the third of Four days of Group Matches tonight at the Mall of Arabia, starting with the four remaining Round Two matches, then the first two Round Three exchanges.
Welily and ElShorbagy march, leaving others to sweat it out …
Having already booked their semi-final places yesterday, Raneem El Welily and Mohamed ElShorbagy secured top spot in their Groups as they beat Joelle King and Simon Rosner – both already out of contention – in tonight’s final matches.
Both have a day off tomorrow (apart from the Junior Clinics) as the others battle for second spot.
Before that, four second round matches saw players confirm or resurrect their playoff prospects.
In the women’s matches Defending Champion Nour El Sherbini bounced back from round one defeat to beat Nour El Tayeb to keep while Nouran Gohar beat Sarah-Jane Perry, keeping Group B very much alive.
In the men’s Karim Abdel Gawad made it two out of two as he beat top seed Ali Farag in two games, while Mohamed Abouelghar beat Paul Coll to keep himself in the Group A mix.
