[2] Hania El Hammamy (Egy) 2-0 [4] Amanda Sobhy (Usa) 11-9, 11-7 (30m)
A very strong performance from the Gazelle today, after a bit of a wobbly start – thanks to incredible boasting from the American that just died beautifully at the front. 5/1 down, 5/1, 8/5.
Hania was making a lot of errors at the start of the match (5), but Amanda seemed to get a fraction later on the ball she would have liked at the business end of the game, and made errors herself (3), and from 9/7 down, the Egyptian zoomed to 11/9, 14m work for both.
The second was pretty much close up to 5/5, where once again, Hania physical strength, on a warm court, was giving her the ability to retrieve shots that would normally die on the colder court… 8/5, 10/6, 11/6, 5 errors from Amanda, 2 only for Hania, in 14m last game.
Couldn’t find the win tonight, but at least I found the crosscourt nick! And then a flying beetle found my dress and I panicked 😂🥲😑🙈 #ForehandSmash pic.twitter.com/FbDDSUD4d8

Hania : “Today was a very difficult match, even though it was a 2-0 win. I was very uncomfortable playing Amanda, like always, so I am really happy to be able to get the win.
“I didn’t have a very good start in the first game but I tried to push myself mentally to find a way back into the game. It is the best-of-three so I had to do it in any possible way. I am known for being 2-0 down and then coming back but in. This tournament, there is no way to do that so I had to find a way.
“I try to come out of the tournament, trying to take the positives. Even though I lose sometimes and I have tough losses, I try and take the positives and that is how I can keep pushing.”
