Gohar and Elias end season ranked top in CIB Road to Egypt Standings

Egypt’s Nouran Gohar and Peru’s Diego Elias have ended the season ranked in first place on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, meaning they will be the top seeds at the upcoming CIB PSA World Tour Finals.

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals will take place between June 20-25 in Cairo, Egypt and the event includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each, bringing together all Platinum title winners as well as the reigning PSA World Champions. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.

The El Gouna International was the final PSA World Tour event of the season, with Gohar’s title success seeing her hold off defending World Tour Finals champion Nour El Sherbini to top the women’s standings. It was the fifth PSA title of Gohar’s season and her second Platinum trophy after winning October’s U.S. Open.

Hania El Hammamy took third place after Platinum wins at the CIB Egyptian Open and Hong Kong Open, with New Zealand’s Joelle King in fourth. Belgium’s Nele Gilis has finished in fifth, meaning she will become the first Belgian player to compete at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals later this month.

Nour El Tayeb has finished sixth, meaning she will appear at the event for the first time since she reached the final in 2020. Amanda Sobhy and Georgina Kennedy have taken the final two spots.

However, Sobhy has withdrawn from the event due to an adductor injury, meaning the final place in the women’s World Tour Finals draw will be offered to her compatriot, ninth-placed Olivia Fiechter, who will make her debut if she is to accept.

Elias won four titles throughout the season – including the U.S. Open and J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions – and held off World No.1 Ali Farag to take top spot in the men’s CIB Road to Egypt Standings.

England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy came third ahead of defending champion Mostafa Asal, who will aim to win a third World Tour Finals trophy in a row.

2020 winner Marwan ElShorbagy returns after missing out on the 2022 event, while Paul Coll, Mazen Hesham and Victor Crouin take the final spots inside the top eight. Crouin is in line to make his first appearance at the tournament.

The 2022-23 CIB PSA World Tour Finals will be held later this month. For more information on the tournament, visit the official website or follow the PSA on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
