With the final World Tour event of the 2023/24 season concluding yesterday in Birmingham, all 16 places for the Xbox PSA World Tour Finals have now been confirmed as the world’s top eight in both the men’s and women’s rankings all book their spots.
The event will run from 18-22 June from Bellevue, Seattle and will be shown live on SQUASHTV.
Defending champions Mostafa Asal and Nouran Gohar will be looking to carry on their impressive form to repeat their 2023 success. Both players recently captured the British Open titles in Birmingham and will be determined to end the season with more silverware in their hands.
The World No.1s will have something to say about that, we’re sure. The World Tour Finals crown is a major title that has eluded men’s World No.1 Ali Farag and he will be hoping to finally get his name on the coveted trophy in what will be his sixth appearance. Like Farag, ElSherbini dominated the women’s leaderboard throughout the season, finishing over 5,000 points ahed of No.2 Gohar. ‘the Warrior Princess’ will be hurt by recent losses to the World No.2 and will be desperate for revenge.
Strong opposition awaits the tournament favourites in the men’s event as the likes of Paul Coll, former winner Karim Abdel Gawad and World Champion Diego Elias will all be looking to score the season ending event. Whilst Hania El Hammamy will be hopeful of scoring a first win of 2024 as she eyes a second World Tour Finals title.
There will be one debut in this years finals as Belgium’s World No.8 Tinne Gilis will feature for the first time in the PSA World Tour Finals. The 26-year-old played in 15 World Tour events throughout the season, recording two Platinum event semi-final finishes as well as three runner up finishes and a spot in the World Championships quarter finals.
