World No.8 Diego Elias has qualified for the season-ending 2021-22 CIB PSA World Tour Finals after he became the first Peruvian to capture a PSA World Tour Platinum title with his win over Kiwi Paul Coll in the final of the Qatar Classic on Saturday.
The CIB PSA World Tour Finals are planned to take place in Cairo in June, 2022 and the event includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each, bringing together all Platinum title winners as well as the reigning PSA World Champions. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.
24-year-old Elias moves up to third on the men’s CIB Road to Egypt Standings on 5,750 points behind Ali Farag – who has already qualified for the CIB PSA World Tour Finals following his CIB Egyptian Open triumph – on 6,985 points and Allam British Open champion Coll, who tops the standings with 7,485.
Egyptian Mostafa Asal is the other man who has qualified for the season-ending tournament following his win at the U.S. Open presented by Truist earlier this month and he sits in fourth place.
Completing the top eight are Egyptian Open runner-up Mohamed ElShorbagy, U.S. Open finalist Tarek Momen, Welshman Joel Makin and World No.5 Marwan ElShorbagy.
Egypt’s Mazen Hesham is just 200 points adrift of ElShorbagy in ninth place, while Mohamed Abouelghar resides in 10th.
World No.2 Nouran Gohar has strengthened her lead at the summit of the women’s standings following her title win at the DAC Pro Squash Classic, PSA World Tour Bronze event.
Gohar, who has already qualified after her Egyptian Open and U.S. Open wins, sits on 8,615 points, 2,955 points ahead of World No.1 Nour El Sherbini in second place. Hania El Hammamy makes it an all-Egyptian top three and is followed by Amanda Sobhy, Sarah-Jane Perry, Salma Hany, Joelle King and Rowan Elaraby, who takes the final spot inside the top eight at present.
Elaraby is closely followed by Olivia Fiechter and Nele Gilis, however, who sit in ninth and 10th, respectively.
he next PSA World Tour event will be the men’s Canary Wharf Classic, PSA World Tour Gold event, which will be held between November 14-19 at London’s East Wintergarden.
The 2021-22 CIB PSA World Tour Finals are planned to take place in June, 2022 in Cairo.
