The third day’s play of the CIB PSA World Tour Finals takes place today, as the race for qualification continues at the Mall of Arabia in Cairo.
Only Nour El Sherbini has guaranteed herself a spot in the semi-finals of the season-ending tournament, thanks to winning her opening two group matches in straight games. She will feature in the final women’s match of the evening, against England’s Sarah-Jane Perry.
Ali Farag will take on Diego Elias in the only other match from either Group A on day three, with the winner of that clash knowing that they are into the semi-finals of the tournament.
The other four matches today all come from the respective Group B’s, where all eight players will be on court for a second time. A win for Nour El Tayeb over Camille Serme, eight days on from their clash in the Manchester Open final, would see the Egyptian qualify for the knockout stages.
Hania El Hammamy takes on Amanda Sobhy in the other match in that group this evening. Should both Egyptians win their respective fixtures, they will both be through to the last four of the event, with just each other to play in their final group stage match-up, in what would be the fight for first place in Group B.
Marwan ElShorbagy and Joel Makin take each other on in the final match of the evening. The pair both won their opening group fixtures, but thanks to a 2-0 win, ElShorbagy has the opportunity to secure his passage through to the knockout rounds with a second straight games victory.
The other match is a repeat of the 2019 Men’s World Championship final, and Manchester Open quarter-final. Paul Coll takes on Tarek Momen, with both men having lost out in their opening matches. A win would put both players back in contention, but a loss could see them out of the tournament.
